Although the boar puts up a valiant effort, it is quickly slain by the Sandpoint Three. Silas ultimately severs its head with a swing of his sword. Delighted, Aldern directs his accompanying men to carry the body back to The Rusty Dragon for Ameiko’s staff to cook.
As the meal preparation draws to a close, Lonjiku Kaijitsu storms into the tavern. Lonjiku is Ameiko’s wealthy father and runs the local glassworks. He is upset at the heroes, and they fail to inquire as to why this might be. Ameiko enters from the kitchens and shares a heated conversation with her father in an unknown language. Lonjiku exits The Rusty Dragon telling his daughter she is as dead to him as her dead mother.
Once Ameiko restores the revelrous atmosphere of the tavern, the heroes spend some time talking to the locals. Krask chats with the halfling barkeep, boasting of his stolen dragon’s gold. Niko catches up with Father Zantus and the other clerics, who have no further news of the whereabouts of Ezekien Tobyn’s corpse. Silas plays dice with Aldern, who more than ever wants to be just like Silas.
Amele Barett bursts into the tavern holding a baby with her son, Aeren, in tow. She immediately begins crying at the sight of Niko. Amele explains she found a goblin in her son’s room, chewing on his arms. Her husband, Alergast, chased the goblin into the closet, where it disappeared down a hole. The Sandpoint Three rush to the Barett home to help.
At the Barett household, the group finds the half-eaten corpse of Petal, the family dog. They venture into Aeren’s room and find the face-down corpse of Alergast Barett partially in the closet. Suddenly, Gresgurt the goblin jumps out of a hole in the closet and attacks the party. He nearly knocks Silas unconscious but is soon skewered by Silas’s sword.
Sheriff Hemlock arrives at the scene. Town guards carry the body of Alergast out of the home as Amele desperately clings to it. She tells the heroes they should have been more thorough with their “heroing.”
Are their other goblins hiding in Sandpoint? Why is Lonjiku so upset with the Sandpoint Three? Will any dogs survive this campaign?
We Done Gone Goofed! – Rules Clarifications
- Two creatures are considered engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other. This is relevant for the ranged attack penalty incurred when firing into melee.
- A DC 5 Ride check (free action) is required at the start of a turn to move the mount with the knees, allowing the use of both hands to attack or defend during the round. On a fail, the rider can only use one hand during the round (the other is steering the mount). Another DC 5 Ride check is required to stay in the saddle when attacked.
- Fighting on combat-trained mounts requires a DC 10 Ride check (free action) instead. Using mounts untrained for combat requires a DC 20 Ride check (move action) to attack normally.
- When attacking a creature from a mount larger than the creature, the attacker receives a +1 bonus on melee attacks for being on higher ground.
