Welcome back to MSF Mondays! Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Marvel Strike Force!
There’s a lot to unpack from the latest Marvel Strike Force Blog post. Of course, the main attraction is the announcement of the Age of Apocalypse and the Four Horsemen. The unlocking procedure for this undoubtedly powerful team is a bit convoluted, involving a brand new game mode. Can the average player earn the characters?
Let’s get into it!
MSF: Age of Apocalpyse
Super Villain Apocalypse is always joined by the Legendary Four Horsemen. Each Horseman will be unlocked through the new game mode – Scourge Events. You recall how Avengers Tower is a periodic game mode? This will likely be along those same lines.
The main difference is that each Scourge Event will be more similar to Dark Dimension than Avengers Tower/Blitz. Each event consists of 10 nodes that must be completed in order. However, each time you run through a Scourge Event, you can select a difficult between 1 and 10. The difficult determines which characters you can use.
Of course, that means that the highest difficulty requires the most recent characters – Web Warriors and/or Dark Hunters. For the average player, this will likely gate them out of the highest-tiered content. It remains to be seen if the characters can only be unlocked at the highest difficulty, but I have a hunch that you’ll just get a higher-starred unlock at difficulty 10 and that the unlock will be closer to Difficulty 8.
At the same time, you can apply modifiers, called Scourges, to your run. These allow you to earn more points, so perhaps we’ll be able to unlock the Four Horsemen with a lower difficulty and a multitude of Scourges active. These could be things like enemies gaining 10% more health or gaining Stealth also gains Taunt (making Stealth useless), etc.
As far as the identities of the Four Horsemen? Marvel Strike Force is sure to mix things up after saying, “we’ve written and developed a new take on the story of Apocalypse and the identities of the Four Horsemen specifically for MARVEL Strike Force! It could be anyone…”
Huge Marvel fans are clamoring for Angel/Archangel, which would be a good fit. But I think that Scopely is going to go far outside the box with this, maybe not even having known Marvel characters take the wheel. Could Eimin and Uriel, the Apocalypse Twins be in the mix? What about The Sentry, Banshee, Daken, or Grim Reaper? Or the Last Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Xorn, North, or Krakoa/Cypher?
We have an entire primer article on the Horsemen of Apocalypse, which you can check out here.
Who knows? We’ll have to stay tuned to see what Marvel Strike Force brings us for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
MSF: MSF.GG and Cosmic Crucible
There are a couple other noteworthy events listed in the blog.
First up, MSF.GG recently partnered with Marvel Strike Force to help bridge the gap in inventory management, roster management, and all of the goodies that you’ve come to know and love from msf.gg. More development is in the works, but there is some basic functionality completed behind the scenes that will be released later this year.
My biggest wishlist for the implementation:
- Seamless roster updates where I don’t have to upload images of my roster
- Tell me how much inventory I have of each gear type
- Cross-roster management so that I could create teams online and have them saved in-game
Hopefully some of these are in discussion for us!
Lastly, there is a new PVP mode on the way called Cosmic Crucible. The current iteration features what sounds like a mini WAR mode. Players are matched into 8-person brackets and attack the defenses of their opponents during their matchup time. Win and you move on. Lose and you’re left behind.
Sounds like a mode that we might expect to see resetting weekly, with individual rounds lasting a day like the current WAR setup. I’m not really sure the value this brings that WAR doesn’t except that it’s an individual mode instead of an alliance-focused one. We will – and this is just speculation – probably see Milestones and maybe even character unlocks tied to this mode if history has taught as anything.
Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
