Marvel Strike Force: Go Small with the Pocket Dimension!

Welcome back to MSF Mondays! Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Marvel Strike Force!

Aside from Avengers Tower, another new game mode recently released is the Pocket Dimension! If you’re familiar with the Dark Dimension endgame modes, this is a limited time run in the similar vein. It won’t always be available, and expect changes to the allowed characters in future iterations.

As for the first run of Pocket Dimension, let’s see what it’s all about!

MSF: Pocket Dimension Overview

Dark Dimension is supposed to be difficult. That’s what it’s such a long grind to advance from Dark Dimension 1 all the way through Dark Dimension 5. Heck, most of the player base hasn’t even begun to scratch at the requirements for Dark Dimension 5 yet. The gear required is just so scarce at the moment.

In the meantime, the Pocket Dimension gives us a taste of some new Dark Dimension flavor while we slog through the other levels. You’ll find Pocket Dimension on the leftmost edge of the Dark Dimension select screen. As with the other Dark Dimensions, you can view the leaderboard to see the heights that you’re unlikely to accomplish as an average player. Sorry – the truth hurts.

The premise of Pocket Dimension is simple: using characters with a specified tag, clear all of the nodes to earn valuable rewards. In this iteration, we have the Resolute tag. Furthermore, your characters must also be at least level 65 to participate. This wasn’t clear initially, so there was some community backlash and compensation. However, if your characters aren’t level 65 you aren’t going to be able to make it very far anyways, so I don’t think the backlash was justified.

As far as the Resolute tag is concerned, you’ll have 16 characters to choose from:

  • Scarlet Spider
  • Magik
  • Multiple Man
  • Sersi
  • Shuri
  • Spider-Man (Miles)
  • Misty Knight
  • Star-Lord
  • Red Skull
  • Groot
  • Yondu
  • She-Hulk
  • Storm
  • Doctor Strange
  • Black Panther
  • Omega Red

There are a couple toons in the mix that will give you more bang for your buck than others. For example, Sersi and Omega Red are top-tier, and you’d do well to have them in your roster if you have them available to you. I’ve also seen people have success with Multiple Man, Misty Knight, and even Storm.

Scarlet Spider and Spider-Man (Miles) have a nice synergy, but for most people Scarlet Spider is a very recent unlock and might not be powered enough to have a huge impact. Outside of Shuri and Magik, you’re getting into characters that most people would describe as “non-meta”. For a limited time mode, it’s hard to justify leveling up these characters for a Pocket Dimension run.

The rewards are worth it, however. You’re getting gold and teal gear for clearing the final node. Since teal gear is hard to come by, it is really nice to fill the pockets with some more of it. Although the rewards are random, you get quite a few of them, so do your best!

MSF: Pocket Dimension Thoughts

Overall, the Pocket Dimension mode is a good challenge. As a 9M TCP player, my roster allowed me to get to the final node in one day. The last node, however, is an exercise in patience and determination. A lot of players have claimed that Omega Red is a must-have for this node, but I’ll have to go with their comments because I don’t have him unlocked quite yet.

This mode is still tough. Even with a team power around 450K, you can’t necessarily go through and Auto all of the nodes. This is similar to Dark Dimension – for the most part when you first become eligible to start Dark Dimension you won’t be able to Auto it either.

Because of the limited toons that you have at your disposal, I recommend using your most powerful ones. I know, it’s not much of a strategy suggestion, but it’s not like you can carefully craft synergy out of thin air. I did use the Web Warriors because of their built-in synergy, but they were both the weakest members of my squad and still fell first. Here’s the team I used:

Multiple Man is nice because he forces the enemy to spend attacks eliminating his clones. Any time that you can have them attack a clone is a huge win because it means your main toons are surviving for one more turn.

Shuri’s Defense Up is key – and has good synergy with the clones too – and her Heals are helpful. She’s been one of the better support characters in the game, even if that title is slipping due to power creep.

Sersi is your offensive powerhouse. Without Ikaris she isn’t quite as strong, but I found her to be the gas that I needed to push through damage. Use her Stun effectively when you know an enemy is going to use an ability that will completely deter you.

Lastly, the Web Warrior duo works well together, although feel free to swap them with other toons if you have stronger ones. I’m looking at you Omega Red.

The last node is so much harder than all of the others because it’s filled with annoying toons. Shield Troopers. Mordo. Ultron. Captain America Taunts. It really is just an annoying node that will upset you more than a mobile game should. I do have a couple tips that helped me out that I’d like to share.

Stun the Shield Troopers wherever possible. Since they get free attacks by targeting adjacent enemies, you want to take those attacks away. Stun prevents them from proccing that ability.

If you do damage to Ultron but fail on your first attempt, he won’t revive in your next attempt. As long as Ultron is damaged when your attempt starts, he won’t revive. Use this to your advantage. Some people have planned ahead, getting Storm’s charges up high and then blasting Ultron immediately to help take him down quickly. Remember – his mech army will buff all of the enemies. Sersi’s Ult can take them all out before the engine gets going.

Be wary of Shuri’s healing ability if you have a bunch of Heal Block on your allies. You don’t want to waste your turn. You can also use her basic ability to Heal Block enemies in case Ultron’s minions start to gain the upper hand. Focus your fire and take them down one at a time.

With any luck, you’ll be able to clear Pocket Dimension and get some cool rewards! The mode is only around for a few more days, so you better get moving!

Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
