Welcome back to MSF Mondays! Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Marvel Strike Force!
Cosmic Crucible arrives in the game this week! We already mentioned some of the top highlights about the mode when we discussed Gambit in Marvel Strike Force last week, but now that we have some more definitive information on the new game mode we will re-hash it out today.
The Pre-Season for Cosmic Crucible begins on May 11th. You’ll want to use the time to venture around in the game mode before the Season starts on May 13th. During those two days you’ll finally have the opportunity to set your Defense teams. Apparently the appropriate names for your Defense Rooms are ‘Stages’ and the Rounds are actually called Trials. Potato tomato.
Don’t forget that rooms will have their own bonuses, so you’ll want to set teams that capitalize on those bonuses. In the screenshot above, courtesy of the Marvel Strike Force blog post, you’ll see how the advantage for a room gets listed on the top.
Scopely has warned us up front that this initial Pre-Season for Cosmic Crucible is designed to work out any issues before the actual first Season, but that doesn’t mean that people will be slacking. Commanders will be assigned competitors in their pools based on their Total Collection Power (TCP). This is nice because it puts everyone on semi-equal footing with similar roster levels.
The format is a basic Swiss-style tournament where if you win, you face another Commander who also won within your bracket/shard. Same thing for round 2, which takes you to the finals. Top finisher gets the best rewards, followed by 2-4, 5-7, and finally 8th.
Honestly the rewards aren’t that much different between the top spot and the lowest spot, which is surprising. It’s similar to how the Alliance War rewards are still decent even if you lose. We’re also operating under the assumption that as you improve your Tribunal Rating in the Cosmic Crucible, the rewards will also improve.
That being said, I’d recommend at least participating in the mode to guarantee yourself some rewards. So far we’ve only seen that you’ll earn Crucible Credits and Elite Crucible Credits in the mode, which can be spent in the new Cosmic Crucible store that launched with the last update.
To help supplement and celebrate the launch of Cosmic Crucible, there will be a limited Countdown to Crucible log-in calendar. This will award the aforementioned Crucible Credits currency as well as 30 Wakandan Shards. Now, now, don’t cry in an uproar; the Wakandans just got re-worked!
Perhaps one of the most notable throw-away lines in the last blog post was that there will be some upcoming changes to Raid times that should decrease the manual time spent on those Raids. Any mid-late game players know that hitting Auto on Raids is just a time sink, especially when you haven’t had any issues beating these Raids in many, many months.
I’m guessing that some of the higher Raids like Doom 2 might not get as much auto-potential, but I’m hoping for some simple ‘click to spend Raid energy and auto-clear’ instead of going through the motions of loading the node and tapping Auto. Time will tell, but it’s an exciting change!
Lastly, Tier 2 Level 4 Iso-8 Ions are heading our way. I’m not sure about you, but I still haven’t brought any toons to Tier 2 Level 2 yet, just because the dang things are so scarce. However, if you’re one of the people itching for that 10% toon boost, your day is coming.
And now I’ll close this out with things to watch out for this week in Marvel Strike Force:
- Blitz: Iceman & Military (Quick Rumble)
- Legendary Events: Magneto, Black Bolt
- Character Events: A-Force of Natures continues along with Goblin Queen
- Other Events: Payday Flash Event May 13th
Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
