Welcome back to MSF Mondays! Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Marvel Strike Force!
This week I’m putting together a more generic Marvel Strike Force article that I have been doing recently. That’s because I’ve been thinking a lot about Teal Gear now that I’m done with Dark Dimension 4 (DD4), and how I’m in the long, grinding slog of leveling up toons in preparation for Dark Dimension 5.
Dark Dimensions are the so-called ‘end-game’ content of Marvel Strike Force, and I’ve been using them as my guiding beacon for advancement in the game since I first started Dark Dimension 1. Each one has different requirements for entry, which I’ve covered in a previous post or two.
Instead, I want to talk about my personal mantra: ABB! It stands for ‘Always Be Buying’, and is a little nod to the film ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ starring Alec Baldwin. In the movie, Baldwin gives a rousing speech about the ABCs of sales: Always Be Closing. The idea is that when you’re talking to a customer, you should always be advancing the conversation towards a successful sale.
Now, I’m not a salesperson and so I’m forgoing the validity of Baldwin’s words. I am, however, applying a similar principle to my progression in Marvel Strike Force. The idea is that you should Always Be Buying gear that will take you to the next level. Therefore, if most of your toons are in Blue Gear right now, you should be focused on buying Purple Gear. If most of your toons are in Gold Gear, you should be focused on buying Teal Gear.
Basically, you should be buying the next level up of what you need. And that’s why I bring up Dark Dimension. Planning for Dark Dimension is an important step all by itself, but you can only get so far as your gear allows. It’s also a decent litmus test for the strength of your overall roster, even though you can get top heavy at some point based on resource restrictions.
So, when I was just getting into Dark Dimension 4, I would still be on the hunt for the random pieces of Gold gear that I still needed, but I also just started buying all of the Teal Gear that I could get my hands on. I might not be using it now, but I will be before I know it! That way, when I get to the point where I need to start focusing on leveling with Teal Gear, I’ll already have a stockpile waiting.
There are a few benefits to this ABB Marvel Strike Force strategy:
- Multi-tasking – You’re focusing on your current state, but also on your future state at the same time. Because of this, you don’t start at ground zero when you take the next step up in your Marvel Strike Force roster progression.
- Gold Milestones – All that purchasing power is going straight into your Gold Spending Milestones! In a way, this also reduces some of your other resource bottlenecks, because you won’t be using as many Ability crystals or Training mats to level up your toons. You won’t have such a deficit if you keep closer to the 1 Million Gold threshold.
- Sampler Platter – By purchasing all of that gear in sight, you’re helping protect your roster against future character releases and changes that might impact your next Dark Dimension team planning. If they release an uber-powerful toon that you HAVE to get into Dark Dimension, you will already have some gear for that toon waiting for you. At some point, you’re going to use it so you might as well pick it up.
If you’re always buying in Marvel Strike Force, you’re setting yourself up for a healthier roster. And, especially with the scarcity that comes with a new Gear level, you’ll keep your roster moving towards your goals with the intent of getting their quicker. With the huge bottleneck on Teal Gear right now, I would probably be set back multiple months if I hadn’t started buying Teal Gear months and months ago.
Again, you might not think you need it now, but you will in the future. Be good to your future self, and spend Gold on that Gear! Eventually the Teal Gear economy will right itself, but especially now even catalysts are a massive sink. So I just scoop it all up whenever I see it.
Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
